Spotlight Initiative
With Support from UNDP under the Spotlight Initiative, Digital Woman Uganda (DWU) empowered 122 out-of-school youths in Kampala and Gulu districts. the project particularly targeted, girls, young women, and empower them with practical digital skills and entrepreneurship skills, alongside access to information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), digital safety, and referral services. The project successfully trained 122 out-of-school youth, including 78 girls and 48 boys, equipping them with skills to improve their employability, start and grow businesses, use digital technologies productively, and make informed decisions about their rights, health, and wellbeing. The youths secured internship placements with Masai Tech Consultants, Cincom Systems, and Nile Tech, while others were retained by DWU.
DWU sincerely appreciates UNDP and the Spotlight Initiative for the invaluable support and partnership that made this intervention possible. The initiative has not only equipped young people with practical skills but has also increased their confidence, entrepreneurial mindset, awareness of GBV and SRHR, and access to essential information and support services.
